Hubei Kaiwei Polymer Materials Co., Ltd. and Wuhan Engineering University cooperated with the school and enterprise to establish the Suizhou New Materials Research and Development Center. Professor Li Liang from the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Wuhan Engineering University was hired as the company's vice president of science and technology to lead the team to devote itself to the research and development and application of new materials for vehicles and promote innovation and transformation of new materials. The research and development direction is: environmentally friendly, high flame retardant, lightweight, and high physical properties new automotive materials. In 2016, it successfully developed new customer-specific interior panels and applied them to BYD buses, forming a new industry standard (T/T1095). The high flame retardant interior panel developed in 2017 was used in the special vehicle of China Ordnance Equipment Group Chongqing Dajiang Industrial Co., Ltd., and was used by Chongqing
 Dajiang designated the only supporting supplier for this material. Li Liang: Doctor, professor, doctoral supervisor, recipient of the Humboldt Plenary Session Scholarship of Germany, distinguished professor of the Chutian Scholars Program of Hubei Province, and selected candidate of the New Century Outstanding Talent Support Program of the Ministry of Education. The School of Materials Science and Engineering of Wuhan Engineering University was awarded the right to grant the first-level discipline of Materials Science and Engineering in 2013. The School has formed characteristics and advantages in scientific research fields such as polymer materials, energy-saving materials, membrane materials, mineral materials and plasma technology. In the past five years, he has won 1 second prize of National Technological Invention Award, 1 first prize of Scientific and Technological Progress Award of Hubei Province, 1 first prize of Scientific and Technological Progress Award of China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association, and 228 authorized national invention patents. In 2020, he was appointed by the company as Vice President of Enterprise Science and Technology, in charge of the Enterprise R & D Center.
